Add Sound To Your Web Site

Add Sound to Your Website

You can add sound to your website using Flash. Flash is the easiest way to add sound to your website. A Flash movie (.swf file) is defined as an object in your HTML file. In this case it loads a picture of a play button. When you click the play button with your mouse the sound plays.

There are two ways Flash can be used to add sound to your website:

  • Automatic Loading of Sound Files -- The .swf file contains the image of the play button and also contains the sound file (usually an MP3 file). This takes time to load and you will see a counter showing the percentage of the file that is currently loaded.
  • Streaming Sound Files -- The .swf file contains the image of the play button, and the HTML object definition points to the sound file (usually an MP3 file). When you click on the play button, the sound begins streaming and plays.

I personally prefer the streaming of large sound files for three reasons:

  1. Automatic loading of large sound files can delay the display of images. On a dial-up connection, loading large sound files will delay the display of images and make your site look incomplete. Visitors may leave before everything loads completely.
  2. Automatic loading of large sound files uses unnecessary bandwidth. Even if a visitor does not play the sound, the sound file is still transferred.
  3. Streaming of sound files is usually fast enough on a dial-up connection so that interruptions in the sound do not occur.

I initially choose to add sound to my website with Wimpy Streaming Media.

Then, I saw Web Audio Plus. It looked like a great product. It allows you to both record and make a Flash audio button for your site. "Great!" I thought.

I bought it and tried it. But, it didn't stream! The sound file was contained in the Flash document. WOW was it big! And did it ever take a long to to load. My site looked naked without images while all the sound files loaded.

I said, "No way!"

So, I quickly went back to Wimpy.

Web Audio Plus is still a great product. It allow you to both record and produce your audio button. But, it wasn't what I wanted for large audio files. If your messages are limited to 10 or 20 seconds, Web Audio Plus can work well for you.

Now, Wimpy is simply a button. You cannot record or edit sound with it.

But, there is a fantastic audio recorder available. It's fantastic for two reasons. It really is a great recorder, editor, and MP3 creator. But, it's also free. It's Audacity. It's available for both PC and Mac.

So, even if you get Web Audio Plus, you still should use Audacity.

Once you have Audacity, just click the link below to get your Wimpy sound button. It's what I use exclusively on this site. And, the best part, it's both cheap and easy to do.

Website

A website is a collection of web pages that present information to those viewing your site. Each page may present text, images, sound and video files, and other types of content.

Each website has a home page. This is the page you reach when you type in the site's URL (e.g., http:/www.mysite.com) without a page name. This home page has links to other pages within the website that explain details of a specific topic.

A website usually has a number of pages related to a subject area. Each page may cover or describe a particular aspect of that subject. If a "sub-topic" is broad enough, it also can branch out to additional pages that cover aspects of that sub-topic in more detail. It's almost like having a family tree, with a main truck and various branches.

The "Website Generation System" I developed dynamically combines small snippets of web pages together to present a web page with information that reflects the web page name.

This makes constructing websites easier while at the same time ensuring that the information presented is closely related to what the end user is looking for.

Website Generation System Overview

The "Website Generation System" is a website development tool that quickly allows you to construct websites with hundreds, even thousands of content rich pages. Each page provides valuable content to people viewing your site. You can also include top selling Clickbank products (selected by keyword) and RSS feeds on your pages.
